horseshoeing

The other day I had a guy call needing his horse shod for a sale. He informed me that he had it done three days before but it didn’t look right. So I went down to the fair ground to take a look and what I saw was the worst job of shoeing I have seen in a long time. None of the feet were the same when I trim them I took off about 2inches off three of the feet and 3 inches off one. Why do people think that there is nothing to shoeing horses when it takes training and education plus a lot of practice. There is a big difference from putting iron on and doing it right. When you hire some one to shoe or trim your horse make sure they know what they are doing for your horse benefit. Don’t just hire the cheapist or the first one you find without asking around to see if they know what they are doing. Your spending your money and the health of your horse is your job. Shoeing does not harm a horse’s feet but bad trimming or shoeing does so hire a good shoer next time and stay with them as he will get to know your horses feet and your horse will learn to trust him.
